Rare original lens hood for Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens for sale
This lens hood suits the Canon 50mm f/1.2 lens that was supplied for use with the late Canon rangefinder models. It is in as-new condition and looks to me as if has never been used at all. The hood was probably old stock from some long-departed camera store.
The hood is a clamp-on type, and it is vented, so certainly intended for use on a rangefinder camera.
The hood is complete with original packaging, a canon lens cap, and the leather case, which like the hood, also seems to have never been used, even the cardboard spacers for the strap slot are still in place.
Here you see the original packaging. Doubtless some clever person can date the item from the packaging. I know that Canon introduced the 50mm f/1.2 lens in 1956, but the fact that the leather case is black rather than brown leads me to suspect this hood was actually made a little later. I think the hood probably dates from around 1961, since I know the early Canonets had black leather cases, as did the Canonflex RM, where the earlier Canonflex R2000 and RP from 1960 had brown leather cases.
